Benalmádena, a popular coastal destination in the province of Málaga, posted impressive hotel occupancy figures last year. The municipal council has labeled these figures as “spectacular”.

According to Presi Aguilera, the Councilor for Tourism, Benalmádena has overtaken tourist powerhouses such as Barcelona and Benidorm (Alicante). He bases this on overnight stay figures and average expenditure by tourists. Benalmádena is now among “the cities with the highest hotel occupancy on the Iberian Peninsula in 2023,” reports Málaga Hoy.

‘Historical figures’

Aguilera emphasized in the newspaper that the destination showed “historic” figures in December. The number of travelers staying in hotels (27,670) showed an increase of 51%. The number of overnight stays in turn showed an increase of 47% with a total of 139,145.

For the full year, Aguilera indicated that Benalmádena has seen a 7% increase in the number of hotel guests compared to 2022, and an 11% increase in the number of overnight stays, bringing the total in 2023 to 3,306,674 stays.

Growing popularity

These figures confirm the growing popularity of the coastal town among both national and international tourists. Benalmádena has beautiful beaches, excellent facilities and a vibrant culture. People can choose the part on the coast, with sights such as the Sealife aquarium or Selwo Marina, the cozy center of Arroyo de la Miel or the picturesque Benalmádena Pueblo, a real white village with a great view of the entire coast. Here you can also visit the Butterfly Garden (El Mariposario de Benalmádena). This was voted the best attraction in Spain in 2021.
