dead body found at sea near Denia

DENIA – An instructor from a water sports and jet ski hire company found a man’s body floating a mile off the coast of Les Rotes in Denia on the Costa Blanca on Wednesday afternoon.

The local police of Dénia received a report from the 112 about the find around half past two. The maritime unit went to the location and continued to guard the body. The local police, together with the Guardia Civil and the Maritime Rescue Service, then set up the salvage operation. They were able to start at around five in the afternoon.

According to police sources quoted by Las Provincias, it could be a man, possibly white. Moreover, his advanced state of decomposition indicates that he had been at sea for some time. He was dressed only in Bermuda shorts, which would rule out anyone related to illegal immigration.

Up to seven bodies were found while fishing

It is important to mention that from the end of March to mid-June, several trawling boats found up to seven bodies while fishing in the waters of Dénia and Xàbia. In those cases, it seemed that immigrants were travelling by boat.

Toddler in Tarragona

Furthermore, it is reminiscent of the remains of a toddler about 2 years old found earlier this week on a beach in Tarragona. There, too, the authorities are having difficulties identifying the child because of the poor condition of the remains. However, because of the clothing, it is suspected that this is a migrant who drowned during the crossing from North Africa to Europe.
