Spanish with Vicky

A Spanish teacher, 36 years old, from Barcelona. Although her full name is Victoria Chauvell, you can call her Vicky. With 225K followers on Instagram and 232K followers on TikTok, @spanish.with.vicky is the largest community of Spanish students in the world. And this is just the beginning: Vicky’s ultimate goal is to spread her love for Spanish worldwide.

The power of social media

Thanks to social media, Spanish With Vicky has reached an international audience, primarily students living in Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. “Some of my students are drawn to Spanish because it’s their partner’s native language, others want to reconnect with their family, and others simply love our culture,” says Vicky. But regardless of the reason, her platforms have the power to reach thousands of people and create a large community that shares the same passion.

However, this aspect is often underestimated by influencers and creators. Currently, social media is excessively used in a negative way by teenagers consuming superficial content. As Vicky explains, “I don’t want to entertain, I want them to learn something.” In fact, her media power lies in connecting with the younger generation by sharing educational reels and TikToks that can generate interest through their simple and interactive content.

E-learning: the new trend

Nowadays, learning with the help of electronic resources, also known as e-learning, has become increasingly popular. The reason is simple: since the times of the pandemic, people have realised that it’s possible to learn anything you need, whenever you want, wherever you are, from the comfort of your mobile phone or laptop. This is not limited to school subjects or teenagers: adults can also start cultivating new interests and hobbies.

Spanish With Vicky is a good example of how teaching methods are changing to adapt to our busy lives, making everything more practical and stimulating. Her innovative method involves a study approach that goes beyond traditional linguistic aspects. As Vicky points out, “I realised that people learn Spanish in a very formal and uncommunicative way. But my goal is to teach them real Spanish, that is, how to express themselves like a native speaker in everyday situations.”

To approach this language, there are a variety of ways, such as interacting with Instagram posts or Tiktok videos for just 5 minutes a day, attending webinars and courses, engaging with other students in the Telegram group, or simply joining the Spanish With Vicky community and being carried away by the passion for the Spanish language.
