Due to the current Covid-19 situation and the new Omicron variant, America is recommending that people should not travel to Spain due to the coronavirus risk factors.
On Monday, the country added Spain to the list of countries it recommends not travelling to due to a “high risk” of contagion from Covid-19.
On the official US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, it states “avoid travelling to Spain. If you must travel to Spain, make sure you are fully vaccinated before you travel. Because of the current situation in Spain, even fully vaccinated may be at risk of getting and spreading Covid-19 variants”. For those who do travel to Spain, it continues, “travellers should follow recommendations or requirements in Spain, including wearing a mask and staying 6 feet apart from others.”
As such, America advises against non-essential travel to Spain. Furthermore, the US has created a 4-level system to inform travellers of the various risk levels involved when travelling during this ongoing pandemic.
The system categorises international travel destinations into the following levels:
Level 4 – Very high level of COVID-19
Avoid travel to this destination.
Level 3 – High level of COVID-19
Make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel.
Unvaccinated travellers should avoid nonessential travel to this destination.
Level 2 – Moderate level of COVID-19
Make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel.
Unvaccinated travellers who are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should avoid nonessential travel to this destination.
If you must travel and have concerns, talk to your doctor.
Level 1- Low level of COVID-19
Make sure you are fully vaccinated before travelling to this destination.
Spain is level 4

As the COVID-19 situation around the world changes, CDC is monitoring COVID-19 risk in these destinations and making travel recommendations. Therefore, it is advisable to check the website before any travel arrangements are made. Furthermore, there will be requirements for travellers entering different countries including Spain, as well as when they return to the US.
