The arrival of a new cold snap to Spain will mean a “drastic change in weather” at the end of this week. There are storms, rain and snow on the way to parts of Spain.
Rain, snow and storms are expected in parts of Spain on Thursday, according to the forecast of the Spanish weather services Aemet and Meteored. During the day it could be slightly frosty in the Pyrenees and in the north of the Iberian and Cantabrian mountains. But frost could also occur in the adjacent areas. Minimum temperatures will rise almost everywhere. Only in the southwest of the peninsula and in the Canary Islands will they fall.
At the same time, maximum temperatures will rise in the Alborán, the Pyrenees and the north of the Balearic Islands. In the rest of the country, they will fall, especially in the northwest. It gets warmest in Córdoba, Huelva and Seville (27 degrees). In Malaga and Murcia it will be 25 degrees and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife it is predicted 24 degrees.
Drastic weather change with rain and snow
It will rain lightly in the north of Galicia and the Cantabrian slope. During the day, the rain will move to the rest of Galicia, the upper reaches of the Ebro, the Iberian system, the Pyrenees and the north of Catalonia and the northern plateau. But the precipitation can also reach the southern half of Aragón and the north of the Valencian Community. In the southeast, precipitation may be accompanied by occasional thunderstorms at the end of the day. Snow is expected in the Pyrenees and in the Cantabrian Mountains.

Clouds and fog
Furthermore, Ahmet predicts clouds in the northern half of the peninsula. In the course of the day, the clouds will move to a large part of the rest of Spain and the Balearic Islands. In the extreme south and southwest, there it will only be slightly or partly cloudy. And on the Canary Islands it is partly cloudy or cloudless. Morning fog banks can occur in the far north of Spain, on the southeast coast and around the Strait of Gibraltar.
Wind
Finally, the trade winds will blow moderately in the Canary Islands. The Levant blows in the south and east. The rest of the country has to deal with north and west winds. In general, the winds will be moderate, with more intense intervals on the coast, the Ebro, the southwest of the peninsula. In the Strait of Gibraltar and Alborán, the wind blows from the west.
More unstable weather over the weekend
Starting Friday, the effects of the storm will intensify with an increase in atmospheric instability. According to Meteored, the impact of this will be felt on the Atlantic coast, especially in Galicia and Asturias, where it will rain heavily. In addition, the strong winds will cause waves. However the weather change may not affect many areas on the Mediterranean coast as the sun will still be shining. Temperatures will drop in the southwest and in the Canary Islands, but rise in the rest of Spain. It will snow in the mountain areas in the northwest, where the snow level will drop to 900 to 1100 metres by the end of the day.
Saturday will be chilly, with wind and precipitation
On Saturday the wind will blow hard. Large parts of the peninsula will experience precipitation, especially in the Pyrenees, both in the form of rain and snow. Temperatures will be low and unpleasant in the north and centre of the peninsula, except on the coasts of the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. There, the maximum temperatures are expected to rise. Winds will blow from the southwest with strong gusts on the Galician coast, the Cantabrian coast and high areas in the north of the peninsula.
The weather will remain unstable on Sunday
On Sunday, atmospheric instability will continue, so that as the day progresses, cloud cover will increase with a daily evolution across the board. However, large sunny spells may temporarily be seen over the peninsula during the first half of the day. There may be thunderstorms, especially in the Balearic Islands and in the northeast. It will remain cool during the day on Sunday.
