Spain electric vehicle subsidies 2025

The Spanish government has announced an additional €400 million investment in its flagship electric vehicle subsidy programme, Plan Moves III. This brings the total allocation to €1.735 billion, with the scheme now extended until 31 December 2025.

The extension aims to boost electric vehicle (EV) sales, encourage more sustainable transport choices, and make EVs more accessible across the country.

Up to €9,000 available in purchase incentives

Plan Moves III offers grants ranging from €4,500 to €9,000, depending on the type of vehicle and whether an older vehicle is scrapped. Private individuals purchasing passenger cars can access up to €7,000, with an additional €2,000 available if they trade in a qualifying older vehicle. Commercial vehicle buyers may receive the full €9,000.

These incentives are complemented by the return of a tax deduction. Buyers can now claim 15% of the vehicle’s purchase price against their personal income tax. This benefit, which had previously lapsed, is now reintroduced.

Over 140,000 EVs and 113,000 chargers supported to date

Since its launch, Plan Moves III has supported the purchase of over 142,000 electric vehicles and contributed to the installation of more than 113,000 public and private charging points throughout Spain.

The additional funding reflects the government’s commitment to cleaner transport. Minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, noted that nearly €3 billion has now been earmarked to accelerate the shift to electric mobility.

Simplified process for smaller projects

One of the changes included in the new funding round is a simplified application process for smaller-scale projects. Proposals under €100,000 will now require less documentation. This move is expected to speed up access to funds and remove barriers for individuals and small businesses.

Industry collaboration to improve future access

To further develop the programme, the government will host a roundtable discussion with key stakeholders. Participants will include automotive manufacturers, energy companies, and regional authorities. The goal is to identify improvements, streamline access, and ensure the programme remains effective and inclusive.

A push towards cleaner transport

Spain’s EV policy is central to its broader climate and energy strategy. By extending support through Plan Moves III, the government hopes to maintain momentum in the transition away from fossil fuels and toward a greener transport system.

Electric vehicle uptake in Spain has grown, but lags behind some other EU countries. This fresh funding and policy update could help close the gap.
