Spain will receive a total of 14.5 million tourists in the months of March and April. That is two million more than in 2023. They are expected to spend €19 billion, €3.7 billion more than in the same months of the previous year.

This was announced by the Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, during a tourism fair in Berlin. He predicted a “historic” Easter week with figures that anticipate what could be another record year for tourism.

Hereu highlighted Spain’s strength in tourism and its excellent position in Europe as one of the benchmark countries in terms of social sustainability and the digitalization of tourism. “But even after Easter, we must make the tourism sector, one of the pillars of our economy, attractive all year. By continuing to promote and make the sector more sustainable. With ever better conditions for employees.”

Turespaña‘s forecast for March and April, including Holy Week and Easter, indicates that Spain will receive a total of 14.5 million tourists. That´s two million more than in the same period last year. More concretely, Spain will receive almost 6 million tourists in March. This is compared to 5.2 million in March 2023 and 8.6 million in April (1.4 million more than last April).

In terms of spending, forecast models also predict significant growth (almost €19 billion in spending for both months, about €3.7 billion more than in the same period in 2023). In addition, there will be 4.38 million seats on direct international flights for Easter and Easter week, 5.2% more than in the same period of 2023.”

More tourists in January than in same month 2023

According to data released yesterday by INE, the number of international tourists and spending at the destination in January are above the figures for January 2023. In the first month of the year, 4.8 million tourists visited us, 15.3% more than a year ago. They spent almost 25.5% more.

The UK is the largest supplier of tourists. This is followed by France and Germany. “The European markets continue to have confidence in our country and that, although we must use all means to alleviate it, the drought that affects certain areas does not affect the traveler’s decision to choose Spain for their holidays,” Hereu stressed.
