When you think of Ronda, you probably think of the famous image of the impressive bridge over the Tajo Gorge. Since Saturday, April 13, visitors can walk on a new footpath between the rocky terrain and enjoy the spectacular bridge.
The picturesque town of Ronda is definitely a must-see for travellers through Andalucia. Not only because of the inspiring Puente Nueve bridge but also because of its beautiful location in the rolling landscape and the unique atmosphere in the city.
As of today, Ronda also has a new asset: the Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo. Via a new footpath and a 250-metre-long footbridge, you can walk along the bottom of the gorge. The hiking trail offers an unprecedented view of the impressive infrastructure of the gigantic bridge. Furthermore, the new path is already being called ‘iconic’. Hollywood films have been shot here, and major advertisements filmed. And anyone who has visited Ronda knows immediately what you’re talking about when you mention the bridge.
Stunning view from a new perspective
The world-famous Puente Nueve can now be viewed from below by everyone. A huge bridge leaning against the backdrop of blue skies. Thanks to the opening of the first phase of the Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo, visitors can now view the bridge from a different perspective. The 250-metre route starts at Plaza María Auxiliadora and winds via a footpath to the edge of the gorge, where you are rewarded with a stunning view.
Where can you buy tickets?
From Saturday, April 13, the spectacular new footpath is accessible to the public. The cost for the route is €5 (residents of Ronda are free). Tickets can be purchased through the associated website. Although various media outlets refer to it as the ‘Caminito del Rey’ of Ronda, the municipal government firmly rejects that comparison. This new path is a new tourist attraction for the town. A way to combine education and outdoor sports. Unique to Ronda and with its own identity.
Icon for Ronda and Andalucia
Ronda plans to extend the footbridge in a second phase to a total length of about 750 metres. This would allow visitors to continue walking to the Arab baths in the Padre Jesús district. For now, however, the first phase of this new path is expected to become one of the city’s greatest attractions. The Desfiladero del Tajo is not only just an attraction for Ronda, but also for Malaga and Andalucia. Attractive for tourists who want more than just sun and beach.
