Tragic incident in Salou: Irish tourist kills partner in hotel

SALOU – In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old Irish man has been arrested by the Mossos for the violent death of his partner, also an Irish tourist, at the Magnolia Hotel in Salou (Tarragonès).  

According to police sources, the incident occurred at 9.30 pm on Sunday when a distress call was received from the hotel, reporting a seriously injured woman. Upon arrival, the officers found the victim lying on the floor, with a man beside her who appeared to have self-inflicted injuries. Despite the efforts of the Emergency Medical Services personnel to revive the woman, tragically, her life could not be saved. 

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, which is currently being kept confidential.

Official Response 

Tània Verge, the Minister of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat expressed her deep sorrow over the murder of a woman in Salou (Tarragona) on Sunday and issued a stern warning: “Machismo doesn’t take vacations.”

“In shock over yet another feminicide within our homes. Our full support goes out to the victim’s family,” she asserted in a tweet on Monday, as reported by Europa Press. 

Verge cautioned that “as cohabitation increases, so does the risk of experiencing violence,” especially during the holiday season.  

“We stand by the Salou City Council and offer our services to the victim’s family and loved ones,” stated the Ministry of Equality and Feminism in a tweet.
