LONDON – As corona incidence rates continue to fall throughout Spain, there seems to be a surge in UK arrivals testing positive on their return from holidaying in the country.
As reported by UK newspaper, The Daily Mail, the number of positive tests on arrival in the UK has risen almost six-fold in the last month. Almost 3% of UK arrivals from holidaying in Spain last month tested positive. That is almost double the rate of those returning from Greece or Portugal. The number in June for travellers returning to the UK was less than 1%.
The UK recently scraped the possibility of amber plus or amber watch lists, and as such, Spain remains on amber.
More people tested
However, there have been more people tested in July than there were in June. In June, just under 40,000 people were tested, and of these, 358 were positive. But in July, 71,418 people were tested, with just over 2,000 testing positive.
Autonomous regions throughout Spain have strict guidelines for safety to protect against the virus.
Infection rate in Spain dropping
According to Reuters, the average number of new infections reported each day in Spain fell by more than 9,800 over the last 3 weeks. That is 19% of its previous peak.
Spain has administered at least 60,449,774 doses of COVID vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 64.2% of the country’s population.
