The Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) has recently sent out approximately 80,000 letters to taxpayers who may have made errors in their tax declarations.

This move is part of a broader effort to allow individuals to correct any mistakes before the agency initiates a formal review, which could lead to penalties or interest charges.

Details of the warning letters

These letters have been sent to those who modified the pre-filled information provided by the AEAT (Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria) during the submission of their tax returns. The letters serve as a preemptive measure, giving taxpayers the chance to rectify any discrepancies through a complementary declaration.

For those who believe their tax declaration was accurate, no further action is required. However, for those who suspect an error, the AEAT is offering a streamlined process to correct these issues. By using the Renta Web platform, taxpayers can easily make adjustments, with the system automatically handling the necessary updates.

Out of these, 11.34 million returns resulted in refunds, marking a 10% increase from the previous year.
