An accident this morning at Palma Airport has caused concern. According to sources at Son Sant Joan, Palma’s airport, two planes collided during manoeuvres on the runway.
At 9:30 this morning, an Air Europa plane that had just landed from Barcelona came into contact with the rear wing of a Condor aircraft. The Condor plane was off the runway at the time, waiting for permission from the control tower to begin its takeoff for a flight to Frankfurt.
The accident occurred during a low-speed manoeuvre, which is why there were no injuries. However, both aircraft sustained significant damage and have been taken out of service until further notice. Several parts have detached from one of the planes and fallen to the ground.
Why did planes collide?
Both planes will be thoroughly inspected and repaired before they can be returned to service. The incident has had no impact on the operational status of other flights to and from Palma Airport.
The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. An investigation has been initiated to determine the specific circumstances of the incident and to identify what measures need to be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
