A 33-year-old man has been shot dead in Marbella, prompting a homicide investigation by the Policía Nacional. The victim was found in the street during the early hours of Monday morning with two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Specialist violent-crime officers are now working to establish what happened and identify whoever was responsible.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after 2.15 am on Monday, 24 August, following calls reporting a disturbance around Calle Pintor Pacheco, close to La Bajadilla marina. Some callers subsequently reported hearing gunshots.
When police and medical teams arrived, the man was found seriously injured. Initial information reportedly suggested there may have been a road accident, but medical personnel established that he had suffered gunshot wounds.
Despite efforts to assist him, the 33-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later transferred to the Instituto de Medicina Legal for a post-mortem examination.
Specialist police unit takes over investigation
Officers from the Unidad de Delincuencia Especializada y Violenta, known as the UDEV, at Marbella’s Policía Nacional station are leading the investigation.
Police sources have confirmed that the victim appeared to have suffered two gunshot wounds in the abdominal area. The corresponding judicial protocol was activated once his death had been confirmed.
At this stage, investigators are trying to reconstruct the events leading up to the shooting, determine whether other people were involved and establish a motive.
The investigation remains at an early stage and no arrest has been announced.
Spanish reporting on Monday morning indicates that investigators are not currently linking the killing to organised crime or drug trafficking. That assessment could change as enquiries progress, but police have not publicly identified a motive.
Investigation continues in Marbella
The shooting took place close to Marbella’s eastern seafront and La Bajadilla port, an area containing homes, businesses and restaurants.
Police secured the scene during the early hours while investigators began gathering evidence. Further details about the victim’s identity have not been released publicly beyond his age.
No information has yet been confirmed about a suspect or suspects.
The UDEV investigation remains open, with officers working to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
