Transavia, a subsidiary of the Air France-KLM Group, has identified Spain as a “strategic” market. The airline aims to increase brand awareness and market share by meeting traveller demand for key destinations.

According to Nicolas Henin, Deputy General Director of Sales and Marketing at Transavia France, the airline seeks to provide “quality and accessible” services, positioning itself as a top choice for Spanish passengers.

Hénin further emphasised the importance of Málaga, stating, “Málaga is not only a priority destination for Transavia but also one of the strategic pillars for our growth in Spain,” in a recent interview with Cadenaser.

Strengthening market presence

Spain accounted for 28% of Transavia’s total traffic in 2024, making it the airline’s most significant market. To enhance its Spanish operations, Transavia introduced three new routes last year: Seville-Bordeaux, Granada-Amsterdam, and Gran Canaria-Brussels. This expansion brought the total number of routes to 56.

Seasonal capacity growth

For winter 2024-25, Transavia has planned 2.6 million seats in Spain, a 15% increase from the previous year. In summer 2025, the airline will offer over 5 million seats, with increased frequencies on popular routes such as Barcelona-Paris Orly, Madrid-Paris Orly, and Malaga-Paris Orly.

Sustainability and fleet renewal

Transavia has initiated a complete fleet renewal, aiming to operate exclusively Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. These models reduce emissions by 15%. The airline also employs eco-piloting techniques, such as taxiing with one engine and optimising flight speeds, to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 2%-3% per flight.

In addition, Transavia is advancing its sustainability efforts by reducing waste. The airline has eliminated 41 tons of single-use plastic annually through innovative recycling initiatives.

Transparency in baggage policy

Henin also addressed concerns regarding carry-on baggage fees. He emphasised that Transavia is committed to transparency, ensuring no hidden charges. Since 3 April 2024, all fares include one piece of hand luggage (40x30x20 cm), with an option to pay for additional luggage. The updated policy aligns with European regulations and aims to enhance flexibility and punctuality for passengers.

Transavia’s continued investment in Spain underlines its long-term commitment to the market, ensuring reliable, sustainable, and accessible air travel for Spanish passengers.
