In Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol, Pride 2024 started with the raising of the rainbow flag in the La Nogalera entertainment centre. It marks the start of four days full of activities focused on inclusivity and performances by well-known artists.
The ceremony took place under the leadership of Mayor Margarita del Cid, together with representatives of the municipality and various organisations. There was another ceremony at the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso on Thursday evening at 9.00 pm. This was followed by a speech by presenter Toñi Moreno. Then the free performances by Marlena and Sofía Cristo, among others, started. The evening ended with performances by Butchqueens, Steve Drag and Apotheosika.
During the remaining days of the event, artists such as Mario Jefferson, E´FEMME, Falete, Nebulossa, Varry Brava and Chanel will take the stage. The performances start every day at 8.00 pm and will continue until Saturday, June 1.
Pride 2024 manifestation
The big Pride 2024 event will take place on Saturday, June 1, under the motto ‘Abrazando culturas, tendiendo puentes. Diversidad parte de nuestro ADN’ (Embracing cultures, building bridges. Diversity is part of our DNA). The parade starts at 5.00 pm at the town hall and ends at the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso. There Francesco Sanna de Aquino will read the manifesto. The parade will consist of 17 floats and will pass through the streets of Torremolinos.
Versatile program
Nearly forty activities will take place during Pride Torremolinos, including lectures, exhibitions, dance performances, book presentations, film screenings, a beach volleyball tournament, calisthenics, the VI Concurso de Mascotas Orgullosas (contest of the proud pets), the VII Carrera de Tacones (heel race), children’s activities and a communal hand painting for diversity.
Inclusive amenities
This year the event is more inclusive than ever with special zones for people with reduced mobility and adapted toilets. Interested parties can reserve their place in these zones for free via the website. In addition, front stage tickets are available from €25, part of the proceeds of which goes to the organising LGBTI+ associations. Tickets are available via malagaentradas.com and surentradas.com.
Torremolinos is committed to providing a festive and inclusive Pride. That is why the municipality invites both residents and visitors to participate in the festivities and support the fight for equality and acceptance.
Torremolinos and the LGBTQIA+ community
Torremolinos has been a beloved destination for the LGBTQIA+ community for decades. Its origins date back to the 1960s and 1970s, when the city became a pioneer of tolerance and openness in Spain. Despite the repressive Franco dictatorship, the LGBTQIA+ community found refuge here. Known for its vibrant nightlife and inclusive atmosphere, Torremolinos increasingly became a mecca for LGBTQIA+ tourists and residents.
