A British home decorator has published a list of the most beautiful and the most shared buildings in the world on social media. This looked at reviews, searches and social data. Two Spanish buildings made the top 20.

The list is occupied almost entirely by majestic castles and palaces in the UK. So in first place is one of the most famous, Buckingham Palace. It is by far the most shared place on Instagram with more than a million and a half posts on the social network. The list continues with places like Holyroodhouse Palace and Windsor Castle. But Prague Castle also has a spot on the list.

Two spots for Spain in top 20

The highest spot for Spain, at number 12, is for the Alhambra. This medieval palace and fortress of the Moorish rulers of the kingdom of Granada in Andalucia is doing well on social media. With almost 120,000 posts on Instagram, it is the most shared and photographed Spanish building. Of all these shared posts featuring the grand Nasrid palace, more than 25% contain the word ‘bella’ or ‘bonita’. This is not the first time Granada’s biggest monument has featured in a similar list. It is still one of the most popular tourist attractions is and recently listed as one of the most impressive palaces in Europe.

The list of the 20 most shared places includes another place in Spain. That is the Royal Palace in Madrid, in 20th place.

Note: Alhambra will be closed in early October

The Alhambra will be closed to the public on 4, 5 and 6 October for the two events Granada will host as part of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union. One is the informal meeting of heads of state and government, 6 October 2023. There are rumours that the photo opportunity will take place at the Nasrid Palace.
