The weather in Spain will be nice and warm for the remainder of the week

Temperatures up to 10 degrees higher than normal

The second half of this week the weather will be nice and warm in Spain, reports the State Bureau of Meteorology (AEMET). With temperatures that will be up to 10ºC higher than normal over the weekend. It also remains dry almost everywhere due to an anticyclone.

Wednesday started with frost in mountain areas and also in places on the plateau. In Puerto del Pico (Ávila) the temperature dropped below -5ºC at 6.00 am and in places like Cuéllar (Segovia), Sigüenza (Guadalajara), Rascafría (Madrid) and Reinosa (Cantabria) it was around -3ºC in the early morning hours. In the rest of the country, it was a quiet day, with temperatures ranging from 18 to 20ºC on the coast of the Cantabrian Sea and in the Guadalquivir Valley, and up to 22ºC on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

Temperatures start to rise on Thursday

Thursday will be a similar day, according to AEMET spokesman Ruben del Campo. Frost will again be recorded in parts of the northern plateau and central peatlands. The frost will be slightly less severe than on Wednesday.

The weather will generally be stable, with some fog and mist inland. There will be almost no rain, except in Galicia. Temperatures are rising and at the beginning of the afternoon, 20ºC or more will be measured on the Cantabrian coast, in the Mediterranean region, and a large part of Andalucia. A strong easterly wind will blow in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Rain in Galicia on Friday, fog inland, and locally 25 degrees

Friday will also be a stable day with a chance of rain, especially in the west of Galicia. There may be fog banks in the rest of the region, especially at dawn and early morning hours.

However, the temperatures are going to rise. In the afternoon, temperatures will exceed 15ºC in almost the entire country, except in the high areas. In cities such as Bilbao, San Sebastián, and Oviedo, the temperature will be around 22 º C, just like in Seville, Jaén, and Málaga. In Murcia and Alicante, it could even reach 25 º C.

Weekend weather warmer than normal

Daytime temperatures will be between 5 and 10ºC above normal for the time of year in most of the peninsula. According to the AEMET spokesman, the mild atmosphere will continue on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures similar to Friday’s. On Sunday, temperatures could drop in areas of Extremadura and western Andalucia.

On Saturday it will remain dry almost everywhere, except in the west of Galicia. On Sunday, the rain may also move to nearby areas in Asturias and Castilla y León.

Up to 30 degrees in the Canary Islands

Finally, the forecast is that temperatures in the Canary Islands will rise on Wednesday. The weather will be pleasant for the time of year. Temperatures will be around 28 to 30ºC in the coastal areas and can even exceed 30ºC in areas of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria. From Monday, northerly winds will reach the Canary Islands, accompanied by rising temperatures and rain in the north of the more mountainous islands.

December warmer than normal

Meanwhile, weather service Eltiempo.es predicts that December will be slightly warmer than normal across Spain, with normal rainfall. Only on the easternmost islands of the Canary Islands, it will rain a little less than normal.
