The Málaga City Council has announced the names of the people who will play the role of the Three Wise Men during this year’s Epiphany parade. The three kings, Gaspar, Balthasar and Melchior, are played every year by residents from Málaga. They are crowned with beautiful royal attire to make the traditional Epiphany parade as magical and impressive for the public.
The parade passes through the streets of the city every year on Sunday evening, January 5. One of the chosen ones is Mansour Konte. The city council of Málaga has invited Mansour to play the role of King Balthasar in the annual Epiphany parade. The 19-year-old Mansour Konte became famous for his heroic actions during the floods in Málaga, where he rescued a woman from the water. His action was filmed and widely shared on social media. Consequently, this earned him a lot of attention and offers for work.
Two other kings
King Melchior already be played by the director of COPE Málaga, Justo Fuentes, Manuel Torres Téllez plays King Caspar. This prominent figure in Málaga is, among others, the Hermano Mayor of the Hermandad del Descendimiento and vice-president of the Agrupación de Cofradías.
Parade departs from the town hall
The three kings will be received by the members of the society on January 5. Then they will wave from the balcony of the town hall before getting on their float to start the parade.
New appointment system
From next year, a new system will be introduced for the appointment of the representatives of the Three Wise Men for the parade organised by the Málaga City Council, after being agreed at the spokespeople’s meeting this morning.
King Balthasar will always be embodied by a black person nominated by the mayor. The choice will be based on merit, professional career, or remarkable actions. Melchior and Gaspar will still be embodied by a representative of the Agrupación de Cofradías, among others.
