The highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s thriller series La Chica de Nieve (The Snow Girl) premieres on January 31.

Set in the atmospheric city of Málaga, the show returns with more tension, action, and mystery to captivate audiences.

A darker mystery

Journalist Miren Triggs, portrayed by Milena Smit, takes on another harrowing investigation in the second season. This time, the story focuses on the murder of two young women, a case described as even darker and more ominous than the first season’s plot.

The six-episode season is based on El Juego del Alma (The Soul Game), a novel by Spanish author Javier Castillo. The chilling mystery begins with Miren receiving a haunting message: an envelope containing a photograph of a bound woman and the question, “Do you want to play?” Partnering with colleague Jaime Bernal, played by Miki Esparbé, Miren embarks on a race against time to uncover the truth.

Twists and turns in Málaga

The investigation takes Miren and Jaime to a prestigious school attended by the victims, leading to a gripping narrative filled with unexpected twists. As the city of Málaga once again becomes a central character in the series, viewers can expect the rich visual backdrop to complement the intense storytelling.

A more mature Miren

Milena Smit shared insights into her character’s evolution. “Miren is more stable and mature this season, but her traumatic past continues to affect her,” said Smit. She credited co-star Miki Esparbé for helping her navigate the emotional demands of the role.

Esparbé, a new addition to the cast, highlighted the standalone nature of the second season. “You don’t need to have seen the first season to enjoy this one,” he said, describing the case as “darker and more complex.”

Action, tension, and elegance

Returning cast members Aixa Villagrán and Marco Cáceres reprise their roles as police officers who often clash with Miren over her unconventional methods. Villagrán described the new season as “stronger, more elegant, and full of surprises,” while Cáceres praised its dual perspective, which keeps viewers engaged.

Fans can also expect more action and heightened stakes. “There’s more tension, more blood, and even stronger storytelling,” Villagrán teased.

Based on Javier Castillo’s bestseller

Season 2 is adapted from El Juego del Alma, the follow-up to Castillo’s bestselling novel La Chica de Nieve. Both books have been translated into English and are titled The Snow Girl and The Soul Game.

For readers eager for more, Castillo has already published a third novel, La Grieta del Silencio (The Crack in the Silence), raising hopes for another Netflix adaptation.

Hopes for a third season

The cast is enthusiastic about the potential for another chapter in the series. “I would love to return,” Smit said. Villagrán echoed the sentiment, praising the series’ distinctive style and compelling narrative.

A must-watch thriller

With its gripping storyline, complex characters, and atmospheric setting, Season 2 of La Chica de Nieve promises to deliver another binge-worthy thriller. Mark your calendars for January 31—this season is not to be missed.
