Guardia Civil rescued families in road closed due to snow

GRANADA – According to the Junta de Andalucía official website, Guardia Civil Trafico rescued several vehicles that became stuck on an icy road in Güejar Sierra, Granada.

Just before 10.00 am yesterday, 112 received an emergency call from one of the drivers asking for help. The vehicles had got stuck on an icy slope on the A-4030 road and could not continue the journey.

Eleven stranded

Eleven people of British nationality were stranded in their cars while they waited to be rescued. This was a group of 4 vehicles, 6 adults and 5 children between the ages of 6 and 9.

The rescue

The Guardia Civil Tweeted, The @guardiacivil of Granada rescued five English children and six adults trapped in the ice. They were trying to drive in their cars on the road between the town of Güéjar Sierra and the Dornajo, which was cut off from traffic due to excess snow.

The rescue took a few hours and was not completed until around 12 noon. Thankfully there were no injuries, and no medical assistance was required.

The municipal services of Güejar Sierra then proceeded to clear the road.

Snow and icy road conditions

Other roads around Granada are severely affected by snow and ice. Therefore, it is advisable to organise for the journey, check the road conditions, and your vehicle before you set off.

The Guardia Civil also Tweeted to exercise extreme caution while driving as there is snow on the access to Sierra Nevada, #Granada and Cazorla and Segura, #Jaén.
