Caminito del Rey tickets

The Caminito del Rey, known for its narrow pathways and dramatic views, remains one of Spain’s most popular hiking trails. At some points, the walkway is just one metre wide, offering an exhilarating experience. Later this year, a new 110-metre-long suspension bridge will open, adding another challenge for visitors.

Tickets for the Caminito del Rey cost €11.50, while a guided tour is available for €19.50. Sales open simultaneously for the public and travel agencies.

New suspension bridge to mark key anniversaries

To commemorate ten years since its reopening and 120 years since the original construction, the province of Málaga is expanding the route. A 110-metre-long suspension bridge will soon be added, making it the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Spain. Spanning a gorge 100 metres deep, the bridge is expected to enhance the appeal of this already iconic trail.

What to expect from the new bridge

The new suspension bridge will offer panoramic views of the rugged landscape. It will complement the existing bridge, which hangs 105 metres above the gorge. According to Cristóbal Ortega, Vice-President and Deputy for Infrastructure, this project is a key part of the Caminito del Rey’s anniversary celebrations.

General information about the Caminito del ReyCaminito del Rey - take water

The trail is approximately 7.7 kilometres long, with a walking section of around 4.8 kilometres. It usually takes between three to four hours to complete. While not highly technical, it requires a moderate level of fitness due to its length, uneven terrain, and high walkways. Furthermore, it is not recommended for those with a fear of heights or mobility issues.

Visitors should wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water, as there are no facilities along the route. The trail is linear, so a shuttle bus service is available to return to the starting point.

A personal experience

The editor’s husband recently walked the Caminito del Rey with a friend visiting from Romania. His friend had heard about the trail and was eager to experience it while on holiday in Marbella. The breathtaking views, narrow pathways, and dramatic heights exceeded expectations, making it a highlight of his trip to Spain. The pair found the route well-organised and accessible, though the sheer drops made it a thrilling adventure.

How to get there

The Caminito del Rey is located near the town of Ardales, around 60 kilometres from Málaga. The easiest way to reach it is by car, with parking available near the entrance. Alternatively, a train service runs from Málaga to El Chorro station, from where a shuttle bus takes visitors to the trailhead.

Entry is permitted for those aged eight and above. Children under 14 must provide proof of age. A visitor centre, including a car park with 240 spaces, is available. Parking costs €2 per day, and early arrival is advised.
