A man and his 11-year-old daughter were about to squat in an apparently abandoned apartment in a quiet neighbourhood in Malaga last Monday when they made a shocking discovery. What they found defies all imagination. They stumbled upon the mummified body of a woman who had presumably been dead for 14 years.

The man had noticed that the apartment in the district of Trinidad had shown no signs of life for quite some time. Hoping to find a place for himself and his daughter, he forced the door open, only to make this bizarre discovery. Shocked, they immediately left the apartment and alerted the neighbours, who in turn called the National Police.

The apartment was located in a building with a high turnover of residents. This likely contributed to the fact that her absence went unnoticed for so long. Moreover, the apartment’s windows were open, allowing any odours to dissipate and preventing neighbours from being alarmed.

Investigation and initial findings

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and confirmed the presence of the body. Forensic experts estimate that the woman had been in the apartment since 2011. Furthermore, they suspect she was about 86 years old at the time of her death. The woman’s body has been transferred to the Instituto Medicina Legal for a thorough autopsy to determine the cause of death. The initial hypotheses suggest that the woman passed away from natural causes, but this has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to identify the woman and trace any possible relatives.
