Real Madrid has decided to suspend all concerts scheduled at the Santiago Bernabéu. That is until at least April 2025, after the renovation of the stadium. Local residents have often complained about noise pollution from large events as they have been taking their toll.
Real Madrid issued a statement on Friday announcing the temporary suspension of concerts. News that the local residents have welcomed. However, it is not enough for them as they continue their protests.
Real Madrid statement
The following statement appeared on social media: “Real Madrid C.F. announces that it has decided to rearrange the schedule of events and concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium for the time being. This decision is part of a series of measures taken by the club to ensure strict compliance with current municipal regulations during concerts”.
Measure not sufficient for the neighbourhood
José Manuel Paredes, spokesman for the Asociación de Perjudicados por el Bernabéu, said that since the stadium was first used for concerts four months ago, there have been more than 20 such events. ”The noise was deafening in all of them.” But traffic jams, the movement of people and the consumption of alcohol also caused nuisance. Consequently, the club agreed on a measure with the Madrid City Council. The shows would end before 11.00 pm to respect the peace and quiet of the neighbours. Local residents have now received Real Madrid’s announcement with mixed feelings. In general, they consider the measure to be insufficient. They advocate for the enforcement of protests and legal measures so that no concerts can be held in the stadium.
Stadium gets better soundproofing
In the coming months, Real Madrid is also expected to carry out soundproofing work in the stadium. This should keep the noise level under control. For example, the intention is to improve the insulation of open spaces and close off the points in the stadium where decibels escape. They also want to use acoustic screens and tarpaulins.
This news comes after several concerts took place at the Santiago Bernabéu in recent months. Artists such as Taylor Swift, Duki, Manuel Carrasco, Luis Miguel and Karol G performed there
Number of concerts postponed
Fans of Aitana, Lola Indigo and more artists will have to wait to enjoy their concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The concerts planned for the coming weeks and months at the stadium, starting with the Music Bank World Tour festival, which is described as “the biggest K-Pop event in the world”, will not take place. This also applies to the performances that the Catalan singer Aitana would give on December 28 and 29. The two sold-out shows have been rescheduled to June 27 and 28, 2025. Lola Índigo’s sold-out concert on March 22, 2025 will also be rescheduled.
