A seemingly ordinary day on the waters off Costa Adeje, Tenerife, turned into a harrowing ordeal when a 22-year-old man was arrested for alleged domestic violence and attempted murder.
What began as a leisure trip aboard a recreational charter boat escalated into a life-threatening situation, leaving the crew and passengers traumatised. Spanish authorities are investigating the incident. The accused, a Spanish national, boarded a charter boat with his partner and their baby. The vessel, which typically offers sport fishing and sightseeing excursions, departed from Puerto Colón. At some point during the trip, the man reportedly began assaulting his partner in what police later identified as an act of domestic violence. Concerned for the woman’s safety, the boat’s crew decided to abandon their planned route and return to port immediately.
Crew faces the wrath of the accused
The crew’s decision to cut the excursion short infuriated the man. Reports indicate that he demanded the captain continue with the trip, but his objections quickly escalated into physical violence. Armed with a knife, the accused allegedly stabbed both the captain and a crew member. Despite their injuries, the crew managed to raise an emergency call for help via radio and subdued the attacker on the yacht’s upper deck.
Emergency response
The vessel returned to Puerto Colón at approximately 5.00 pm, docking near the marina’s fuel station. Police officers from the National Police force were on hand to arrest the suspect, who now faces charges of gender-based violence and two counts of attempted murder. According to police sources reported by EFE, the individual also attacked other passengers on the boat, including his partner, before being restrained. Several media outlets have released a video capturing the crew’s desperate plea for help as the vessel approached Puerto Colón.
Ongoing legal proceedings
As investigations continue, the suspect remains in custody, awaiting formal charges. Authorities are working to ensure justice for the victims while addressing the broader implications of the case.
