Spain is moving back towards more settled spring weather today, although strong winds and rough seas remain a concern in parts of the country.
AEMET forecasts a general rise in maximum temperatures across the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, with the sharpest increases expected inland in the western half of Spain. However, warnings remain in place for wind and coastal conditions, particularly around Menorca, Girona, parts of Catalonia, and exposed areas of the Canary Islands.
Where weather could still affect travel
The main travel risk today is not heavy rain, but wind and rough seas. Menorca and Girona are under particular attention for coastal conditions. Meanwhile, AEMET also expects strong gusts from the tramontana in the Ampurdán and Menorca, and cierzo winds in parts of Tarragona and Castellón during the first half of the day.
In the Canary Islands, the alisio wind may blow strongly, with very strong gusts possible in exposed areas. That could affect ferry conditions, coastal activity and some outdoor plans.
Rain, snow and frost still possible in places
Most of Spain will see clearer skies, but Galicia and the Cantabrian area may still have weak rain. Isolated showers could also reach mountain areas, where snow is possible from around 1,100 to 1,300 metres.
AEMET also expects weak frosts in mountain areas of the northern half of Spain, with possible frost in parts of the southeast and some points of the northern plateau. Morning fog may form in northern mountain zones and low-lying parts of northwest Galicia.
A calmer spell after the weekend shift
The wider picture is one of improvement. After a colder, unsettled start to the week, high pressure is gaining ground from the west. That should leave much of the Peninsula with clearer skies and a more spring-like feel.
For residents and travellers, the practical advice is simple: check local AEMET warnings before coastal journeys, ferry crossings or mountain routes, but expect conditions to feel warmer and calmer in many areas as the day goes on.
