Spain weather turns calmer

Spain is set for a calmer and warmer week after a Sunday marked by showers and storms in parts of the country. Spain´s calmer weather outlook will be welcome news after several unsettled days.

AEMET expects locally strong showers and storms today in the north-east of Catalonia and mountain areas in the east and south of the peninsula, with small hail not ruled out. Conditions should then become more stable across almost all of Spain from Monday.

At a glance

  • Today: Showers and storms in parts of Spain.
  • Risk areas: North-east Catalonia and mountain zones in the east and south.
  • This week: More stable weather expected across most of the country.
  • Temperatures: Rising in much of Spain from Monday.

Storms before the change

EFE reports that Sunday’s unsettled weather will affect parts of the peninsula before a more settled pattern arrives next week. Locally strong showers may be accompanied by storms, with small hail possible in some areas.

The most likely areas for heavier downpours are north-eastern Catalonia and mountain zones in the east and south. Some inland parts of the Valencia region may also see storm activity during the afternoon and evening.

AEMET’s national forecast points to showers with thunderstorms that may be locally strong, especially in those higher-risk areas.

A more settled week ahead

From Monday, the picture changes.

EFE says a week of generally good weather is expected across almost the whole country, with temperatures rising in most regions. That should bring a more spring-like feel after the cooler and more unsettled spell Spain has seen in recent days.

For residents and travellers, the improvement should make the coming days easier for road trips, outdoor plans and school or work routines.

Temperatures set to rise

Temperatures are expected to climb through the week in much of Spain.

The increase will be most noticeable after several days of below-average conditions in some northern and central areas. Southern and eastern Spain are likely to feel warmer first, although local forecasts should still be checked before travel.

In Malaga, for example, local forecasts suggest brighter, drier conditions early in the week, with temperatures edging up after Sunday’s cloud and possible showers.

Check warnings before travelling

Although the general trend is improving, Sunday’s storms could still cause short-term disruption.

Drivers should take care on mountain roads and in areas affected by sudden downpours. Heavy rain can quickly reduce visibility and create surface water, especially after dry spells.

Anyone travelling today should check the latest AEMET warning map before setting off, as local alerts can change during the afternoon.

Spain heads into a warmer rhythm

The forecast marks another shift in a changeable May.

After rain, cooler air and scattered storms, Spain now appears to be moving towards a more stable pattern. For many parts of the country, the coming week should feel calmer, drier and warmer.

That does not mean summer has fully arrived. But for anyone planning the week ahead, the signs are much more settled than they were just a few days ago.
