MADRID – Fuel prices in Spain fell again on Thursday, coinciding with the holiday season in August. 95 petrol is sold for an average of €1,702 per litre, while diesel stands at €1,693.
However, that includes the government discount of 20 cents per litre. Furthermore, this is their lowest level since May last year. With these values, petrol is five cents cheaper than last week and diesel four cents. These are average values, so prices may be higher or lower in some regions or seasons.
Without the 20-cent subsidy that the government pays per litre, the price of petrol and diesel average €1,902 and €1,893 respectively, according to the Fuel Bulletin of the European Union.
Both fuels are also below the values recorded at the end of March when the government introduced the 20 cents per litre bonus for all drivers. Furthermore, this bonus will be in effect for the rest of the year.
Despite the declines, these prices and those of the previous week are the most expensive in the Spanish holiday season in August every year. Many drivers will look for the cheapest gas stations to fill the tank during their journey.
