Spain’s national weather agency Aemet has issued an orange alert Valencia for Thursday 8 May due to heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail. Aemet also issued a yellow warning for the rest of the Valencia region, including Alicante and Castellón.

On Wednesday, Aemet raised the alert level for the province of Valencia from yellow to orange. The updated forecast predicts intense downpours, lightning and possible hail. These conditions could cause local flooding and disrupt travel.

Cool and rainy weather in Spain to last until mid-May

The orange alert applies from 11:30am to 9:30pm on Thursday. Alicante and Castellón remain under yellow alert throughout most of the day. The regional emergency centre urges people to avoid flood-prone zones and only travel if absolutely necessary.

Forecast for Thursday 8 May

Thursday starts out mostly cloudy. As the day progresses, skies grow darker. Showers will spread during the afternoon, especially over Valencia. These may become heavy or even torrential, and could bring thunderstorms and hail.

Temperatures in the north will rise slightly, while other areas cool. Maximum temperatures should remain stable. Light winds will shift, and sea breezes are expected later in the day.

What to expect on Friday and Saturday

Friday 9 May brings temporary relief. Scattered showers or storms may still pass over northern Castellón and inland Valencia. Along the coast, night temperatures drop. Daytime highs might increase slightly.

Saturday 10 May appears unsettled once more. Expect cloudy skies and occasional rain, particularly in northern areas. Temperatures continue to rise slowly. Winds will blow from the south in Castellón and Alicante, and from the east in Valencia.
