The Guardia Civil has successfully dismantled a criminal gang specialising in burglaries of luxury homes in Ibiza. The group, consisting of three individuals, is accused of committing at least 22 robberies throughout the summer season.

The total value of the stolen goods is estimated to exceed €548,500.

Method of operation: Robberies while residents slept

The gang operated by entering homes during the night while the residents were asleep. To avoid identification, they dressed entirely in black and concealed their faces. In cases where they were discovered during the act, the thieves would flee the scene immediately.

Several victims reported feeling dizzy and unwell upon waking, experiencing symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. This has led authorities to believe that the perpetrators may have used a type of gas to induce drowsiness in their victims, making it easier to carry out their crimes undetected.

Investigation leads to arrests and recovery of stolen goods

The Ibiza Judicial Police Team conducted an extensive investigation, which eventually led to the identification of the gang’s hideout. The breakthrough came after tracking several stolen vehicles that the criminals used during their operations.

A search of the gang’s residence was conducted this week, where authorities discovered numerous stolen items. Among the recovered goods were high-end watches, sunglasses, jewellery, designer handbags, mobile phones, and cash. The Guardia Civil also found the clothing that the suspects used during the robberies.

Charges and legal proceedings

The Guardia Civil arrested three individuals, two men and one woman, linked to this series of crimes. Two of the suspects have already been remanded in custody by the judicial authorities. The charges against them include burglary, robbery with violence, and theft from the interior of homes.

Gang’s criminal activities date back to 2019

Further investigation has revealed that this criminal group has been active in Ibiza since 2019. Their arrest marks a significant step in curbing organised crime on the island, particularly in protecting the luxury properties that are often targeted by such gangs.
