The Guardia Civil has arrested two individuals responsible for committing more than 50 burglaries in luxury homes on the islands of Ibiza and Mallorca over the past two years.

The estimated value of the stolen goods is around €2 million, with more than 20 luxury watches and numerous pieces of jewellery recovered.

Detailed operation and arrests

The suspects, identified as Albanian nationals, targeted affluent residents in the Balearic Islands. They selected their victims by tracking their movements from high-end restaurants and exclusive beaches. In some cases, they even placed GPS devices on the victims’ vehicles to locate their homes for the planned burglaries.

The burglaries were executed while the victims were asleep. The thieves primarily stole high-end watches and jewellery, which were then sold on the black market through intermediaries.

International police collaboration

The investigation, which started about a year ago, was conducted by the Guardia Civil in collaboration with Europol. It confirmed that the suspects were also under investigation by police forces in France, Italy, Germany, and Belgium for similar crimes.

Significant recoveries and ongoing investigation

In the course of the investigation, the authorities recovered more than 20 luxury watches valued at approximately €350,000, along with numerous pieces of jewellery. They also seized specialised tools used in the burglaries, GPS tracking devices, and clothing worn by the suspects to avoid identification during the crimes. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be around €2 million.

The investigation remains open, and further arrests are possible. Additionally, the authorities are working to clarify other criminal activities potentially committed by the suspects in other European countries.
