The Guardia Civil is investigating a jet ski accident that occurred on Llevant Beach in Salou, injuring a mother and her child. The incident involved a French family, with one victim sustaining serious injuries but now recovering well.

The accident took place on July 11th in a closed circuit operated by a local jet ski rental company when two vehicles collided.

Investigation findings

During the investigation, the Guardia Civil uncovered conflicting testimonies. Three employees provided one version of events, while a fourth employee gave a different account. The authorities suspect that the fourth worker was coerced into lying, presenting a “forced version” of the incident. Consequently, the case has been referred to the Tarragona judicial authorities, with three workers being investigated for allegedly obstructing justice.

Legal proceedings

The case is now under the jurisdiction of the Tarragona court. The Guardia Civil believes that three employees pressured the fourth to provide false information during the investigation. The suspects face potential charges of obstructing justice, a serious offense under Spanish law.

In another incident along the Costa Dorada, a beach bar fire in Miami Platja startled beachgoers on Wednesday afternoon. The fire broke out in an establishment on Avinguda dels Pins, resulting in two minor injuries. Firefighters swiftly responded with three units, extinguishing the blaze within an hour. The smoke was visible across much of the Mont-roig del Camp coastal area.

Summer is the busiest time of the year for the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil in the Tarragona region due to the increased number of swimmers and other leisure activities along the coast. The presence of jet skis is particularly notable, and the service intensifies its monitoring to prevent these vehicles from being operated in unauthorised areas, especially in swimming zones.
