At least two tragic incidents occurred during the night of Sant Joan. The Mossos d’Escuadra (Catalan police) reported on Monday morning that they are investigating the “violent” deaths of a man and a woman during the Sant Joan festival in Girona. Also in Barceloneta, police are investigating an incident involving a fatality.
One of the two tragic incidents took place in Girona. Around 10.35 pm a shooting took place in the Font de la Pólvora neighbourhood during Sant Joan. Two other people were seriously injured. The two people died after an argument between two women that led to a fight and a shooting.
Both victims were taken alive to the hospital where the incident took place, the Hospital Josep Trueta. There, several family members tried to get into the emergency room. The Mossos had to intervene to prevent this.

Incident in Barceloneta
It was not the only tragic incident during Sant Joan in Catalonia. In Barceloneta (Barcelona), a man died around 5.00 am. His throat had been slit by another man during an argument, according to the Mossos d’Esquadra, who are currently investigating this new crime. The suspect tried to rob the victim. He resisted, and a fight broke out that ended with the deceased on the ground.
The Guardia Urbana of Barcelona has already arrested a suspect in connection with this crime, while the Mossos d’Esquadra have launched an investigation to establish the identity of the victim and the circumstances under which the deadly fight took place. After more than three hours, the judicial authorities removed the victim’s body from the Paseo Joan de Borbó, which is very crowded during the San Juan festival due to the large number of people on the city’s beaches.
