BARCELONA – Violent storms, many accompanied by hail and wind, worsened inland Catalonia on Wednesday afternoon. Until 6 p.m., almost 40 litres of water per square meter fell in Tremp (Lleida) and almost 30 in Navata (Girona).
On Thursday afternoon, a storm front ravaged a large part of Catalonia. The storm and rain showers are expected to continue tomorrow and will be very intense locally.
This afternoon there were strong storms with rain and hail in cities such as Sant Hilari Sacalm (Girona) and Calaf (Barcelona), with accumulations of hail and streets flooded by waterspouts.
In Espinelves (Girona), almost 42 litres of water per square meter fell in a short time, and in Vilanant (Girona) gusts of wind blew with hurricane force during the storm.
Forecasts indicate that locally strong storms could drop more than 30 litres per square meter in half an hour tomorrow. They are irregular but can hit practically any point in Catalonia.

La Vanguardia writes that according to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, the rainfall collected until 6 p.m. today is not enough to solve the drought.

Hailstorm in Sant Hilari Sacalm
On Wednesday, an intense hailstorm in Sant Hilari Sacalm (Girona) caused flooding in homes, low-rises, and covered drains. The Generalitat fire brigade reported on Twitter that they had to turn out several times because of the heavy hail. As a result, some cars also got stuck. Firefighters had to free a few occupants. No one was hurt.

There were also no injuries when a wall of sand collapsed on some cars at exit 145 of the C-25 near Sallent (Barcelona) because of the rain. The fire brigade has sent three teams here.t the end of Wednesday afternoon, the civil protection of the Generalitat activated the pre-alert of the Inuncat plan due to the risk of hail, wind and heavy rain in the regions of Bages, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental, Moianès, Osona (Barcelona ), Alt Urgell and La Segarra (Lleida).
