BARCELONA – The Mossos d’Esquadra have intercepted a new suspicious envelope, addressed to the Ukrainian consulate in Barcelona. The Spanish postal service Correos had notified the Mossos d’Esquadra.

The Mossos dÉsquadra were able to verify that the letter contained no explosives. Security sources also confirmed that co-workers at the post office discovered this letter between 5.00 and 6.00 pm on Friday and immediately alerted the Catalan police.

The agents immediately went to the logistics centre of the post office. There they verified that the letter “contained no explosives”. The regional police have opened an investigation but refuse to provide more information about the contents of the envelope. Other sources suggest that animal remains may have been found. As in other packages discovered in recent weeks in various parts of Spain. Moreover, the Ukrainian consulate in Barcelona received an envelope with animal eyes on December 5.

Other letters contained explosives

The National Court has opened an investigation for an alleged crime of terrorism, as some of the intercepted letters contained explosive charges. The first of these injured an employee of the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid on November 30.

The next day, three more envelopes with similar contents were found at a company in Zaragoza, at the base Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid), at the Palacio de la Moncloa and the Ministry of Defense. Since then, several packages have been sent to buildings related to Ukraine with animal eyes and entrails.
