The month of October will be one of the coldest in history, according to Jorge Rey’s prediction method. The weatherman predicts a drastic change in the weather and thinks snow will fall. It will be a turbulent month with instability, storms, rain and perhaps also a lot of snowfall in the medium and high altitudes of the Iberian Peninsula.
The young meteorology enthusiast Jorge Rey has once again made a long-term prediction about what the weather will be like in Spain from October to December. Weather services Meterored and Aemet have not yet dared to make such predictions, but Rey has.
The young man from Burgos, who gained notoriety by predicting the arrival of storm Filomena several years ago using the idea of the cabañuelas, a traditional method of observing the weather by nature. In the meantime, he seems to have become a leading figure in the field of meteorology. Every update he gives is closely followed by thousands of people.
Earlier predictions
After the predictions for the past Fallas, the Easter week and the May holidays, it is now the turn for October. Jorge Rey announced that “the most important thing will come around October 5, 6”.
Instability and rain in October
From the second week of October, with the weekend of October 12 (national holiday in Spain), a front is coming. “This comes through the Canary Islands and causes storms there. These then also reach the west and southwest of the peninsula. Then they will move towards the Mediterranean Sea and it will start storming in the Levante area,” says Rey. It could start raining during the October 12 long weekend in the Mediterranean. And that’s not all. Rey points out that “just before the Pilar, some cold air will arrive on the peninsula from northern areas, which could lead to snow at high altitudes and possibly also at lower elevations”.
The week of October 14 starts quietly, but in the last few days it gets more turbulent. A front from the northwest will bring storms and rain in the north.” As a result, half of the month will be underwater in many parts of the country. From the third week of the month, the weather begins to stabilise, according to the meteorologist.
A quiet Christmas, but then…
Jorge Rey is already venturing into a prediction for Christmas and the beginning of 2025. He expects a quiet Christmas and the start of the new year. But, in the last days of December, he expects a drastic change. January can also brace itself for the arrival of storms. Whether it will be a new Filomena, the man from Burgos is not sure. For now, he only warns that the storm will be “interesting”.
