Benidorm for children

The municipality of Benidorm has started to create more shaded areas in the city’s playgrounds. The municipality is also expanding the existing shaded areas so that children can play there despite the rising temperatures. There will also be a zip line for the youth.

The measure was already announced at the end of August last year. City Councillor González de Zárate pointed out that the work has already been carried out in several parks “and now we are starting in Foietes. The installation depends on the location and consists of metal columns anchored in the ground. To this we attach sail-shaped cloths that provide shade.” According to González de Zárate, “this was something that residents had asked for several times.”

Sun protection at playgrounds and zip line

The councillor added that “although they prefer shaded areas by natural vegetation and trees, sometimes this is not possible and that is why we act in this way”. In principle, the installations are placed near the swings “because we want to give priority to the youngest users, between two and six years old, who suffer the most from the effects of the heat”. He also pointed out that work is underway to install a zip line. This will be in the park on Avenida Bélgica, Avenida del Municipi and Calle Beata María Sufragio Orts.

Budget surplus used for shaded areas

González de Zárate recalled that the action was made possible thanks to the recent budget amendment approved in June to take advantage of last year’s surplus, “which allowed us to invest in things necessary for the city, such as these shaded areas in the playgrounds”.

Friendly city for young and old

The councillor regretted the attitude of the PSOE. The Socialist Group voted against this direct investment in the city.  The councillor himself believes that a city that is comfortable and friendly to everyone is the best for the city.
