Vueling, the Spanish low-cost airline, is set to strengthen its presence in Andalucia by adding two new aircraft to its bases at Málaga and Seville airports. This move will bring the total number of Vueling aircraft in the region to twelve—seven in Málaga and five in Seville.
For the upcoming summer season, the airline has scheduled over 5 million seats, marking a 12.4% increase compared to the previous year.
Expanded route network
Vueling plans to operate 38 routes connecting Andalucia to 16 destinations, comprising 10 domestic and 6 international locations. This expansion includes a significant boost in connections between Andalucia and the Canary Islands, with a 37.9% increase in seat availability, and an 18% rise for the Balearic Islands.
In response to Ryanair’s reduced operations in regional airports, Vueling has announced a substantial increase in flights between Jerez de la Frontera (XRY) and Barcelona-El Prat. Starting April 2025, the airline will offer two daily connections on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, both in the morning and afternoon.
Focus on international connections
As the only airline operating across all six Andalucian airports, Vueling is enhancing its international reach. From Málaga, the carrier will offer 15 connections, adding frequencies to destinations such as Amsterdam and London-Gatwick, along with two additional flights to Paris-Orly. Seville will see seven extra weekly flights to London-Gatwick. Overall, Vueling plans to increase its international seat offerings by 11.7%, exceeding one million seats this summer.
Commitment to regional connectivity
Arturo Bernal, Andalucia’s Minister of Tourism and External Affairs, highlighted the significance of Vueling’s expansion: “It strengthens our commitment to the region’s connectivity to both national and international destinations and reinforces our leading position.”
Punctuality performance
In January, Vueling was recognised as the third most punctual airline in Europe and globally in its category, achieving an 87.3% on-time performance, according to consultancy firm Cirium. At Barcelona-El Prat Airport, Vueling led with a 91.2% punctuality rate. Nationwide, it was the most punctual low-cost airline in January at airports including Bilbao (87.4%), Palma de Mallorca (94.7%), Seville (90.3%), Gran Canaria (90.4%), and Santiago de Compostela (85.8%).
This strategic expansion aligns with Vueling’s objective to enhance its network and competitiveness within the airline industry.
