VALENCIA – This year, the awards ceremony was conducted virtually from Valencia at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia. And so, here we look at how Spain has fared.
In this year´s guide, 4 new restaurants were awarded 2 stars and 27 have received their first star in Spain. Moreover, all 11 restaurants recommended last year with 3 stars last year have maintained this in the 2022 edition.
In addition, one of the other awards is the MICHELIN Green Star. This is a new award just in its second year. And has, therefore, gone to 6 Spanish restaurants for their commitment to sustainable gastronomy.
Moreover, 41 Bib Gourmand restaurants were selected in Spain for the best quality to price ratio. Therefore, those that serve high-quality food and offer reasonably priced menus at a maximum of €35.
Portugal and Andorra are also included in the full guide. However, here we look only at the new additions within Spain.
The 4 new Spanish restaurants to receive the MICHELIN 2 stars are;
Amelia by Paulo Airaudo, Donostia (San Sebastián)
Amelia earns two new MICHELIN stars. Moreover, this intimate restaurant has direct access to the famous La Concha beach. According to the MICHELIN report, “those happy customers who are lucky enough to be seated at the counter or at one of the three tables that make up the dining room will appreciate the finesse and audacity of the cuisine from a chef who, through a particularly creative tasting menu, deftly marries Basque gastronomy to culinary influences with an Argentinian, Italian or even Japanese flavour”.
Voro, Canyamel (Mallorca)
Chef Alvaro Salazar and his team at Voro reach the top and beyond with their amazing dishes. They offer their own interpretation of the classic Mallorcan and Mediterranean recipes but with a subtle twist.
The Smoked Room, Madrid
The Smoked Room lives up to its name by offering delightful charcoal, grilling, and subtly smoked dishes. Consequently, the young chef, Massimiliano Delle Vedove is already proving to be a master of cooking techniques.
The Iván Cerdeño, Toledo
Named after its chef, Iván Cerdeño commands a fantastic location in an old cigarral with breathtaking views of the Tajo River and Toledo city. His cuisine honours traditional La Mancha dishes, but with a creative and innovative twist.
