Spain’s B-team also too strong for Albania

Only one starter from the match against Italy played against Albania. The coach of the Spanish team, Luis de la Fuente, decided to rest the other ten players. Only defender Laporte was once again in the starting lineup against the Balkan nation.

In the first half ‘La Roja’, who played in yellow, took a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres. The Shark, as he calls himself, seems to shine when he dons the Spain shirt. In 44 matches, he has scored 20 times. What happens to him when he plays for Spain? “I think about my family, about all the people. It’s an honour to play for my country.”

Spanish team plays rather dull match

Before halftime, Torres nearly made it 2-0. However, the ball narrowly missed the Albanian goalkeeper’s goal. In an unentertaining second half, Albania continued to fight for a goal while Spain kept passing the ball around. The Albanians did not get much further than a few goal attempts.

Although the Spanish team won, a number of players were clearly missed. Especially wingers Williams and Yamal bring a dynamic that the team couldn’t deliver yesterday. Yamal, the sixteen-year-old Spanish prodigy, is the youngest player ever at a European Championship. He scored his first goal for his country immediately upon debuting.

Spain unbeaten through to the round of 16

Despite the somewhat dull match, the Spaniards are mostly happy with the victory. This is the second time in history that Spain has won all its group matches. The first time was in 2008, when Spain later crowned itself European champion. Whether ‘La Roja’ will take home the cup this time remains to be seen. For now, the starters have had a rest. They can prepare for the Round of 16 in Cologne, where Spain will play on Sunday, June 30 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
