Spain has concluded its participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics with a commendable medal haul, surpassing its performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The Spanish delegation, consisting of 383 athletes, brought home a total of 18 medals: 5 golds, 4 silvers, and 9 bronzes.
Despite these achievements, the team fell short of its initial goal to exceed the 22 medals won at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.
Golden moments
The journey to gold began with sailors Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, who claimed victory in the 49er class event. Spain’s success in athletics was highlighted by María Pérez and Álvaro Martín, who secured gold in the mixed relay racewalking event. Jordan Díaz added to the tally with his outstanding performance in the triple jump, while the men’s football team triumphed over France in the final. The women’s water polo team, known as the ‘Guerreras del Agua,’ earned the last gold for Spain on Saturday, rounding off a successful campaign in Paris.
Silver successes
Spain’s silver medal count was led by María Pérez, who also excelled individually in the women’s racewalking event. Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz added another silver to his collection, while the women’s 3×3 basketball team and boxer Ayoub Ghadfa also finished in second place in their respective categories.
A wealth of bronzes
The largest share of Spain’s medals came in the form of bronzes. Judo athlete Fran Garrigós opened the bronze tally, followed by Álvaro Martín in racewalking. Pau Echaniz earned a bronze in the K1 event, and Sara Sorribes and Cristina Bucsa secured a medal in women’s doubles tennis. Boxer Emmanuel Reyes Pla, the artistic swimming team, Moreno and Domínguez in the C2 500, the men’s K4 canoeing team, and the men’s handball team, known as ‘Los Hispanos,’ also added to Spain’s bronze collection.
