Refueling cheaper again in Spain: prices at lowest level in two and a half years

Fuel prices in Spain have fallen again. Petrol is already 15.4% cheaper and diesel 18.9% cheaper than a year ago. Prices are at their lowest level in two and a half years. 

Fuel prices in Spain have fallen by almost 1% in recent days. Maybe not that much, but prices have fallen for 11 weeks in a row. They are now at their lowest level since January 2022, the month prior to the start of the war in Ukraine.

This is according to data from the Oil Bulletin of the European Union, collected by news agency Servimedia, which indicates that compared to a year ago, gasoline is already 15.4% cheaper and diesel 18.9% more affordable.

The average prices per litre for petrol and diesel 

Specifically, the average price of gasoline this week in Spain is €1.488 per litre, which is 0.93% lower than the €1.502 of the previous week. This is 6.5% lower than at the start of the war in Ukraine. The price of diesel now stands at an average of €1.367 per litre, 0.94% lower than last week’s €1.38. The decline has already risen to 7.6% since the end of February 2022. 

This is what it costs to fill up a 55-litre tank 

With last week’s prices, filling up with a 55-litre tank of petrol costs €81.84. That is 77 cents less than the week before, while a tank of diesel costs €75.19, 71 cents less than a week earlier. 

Price in Spain lower than in Eurozone 

In addition, the average price of fuel in Spain is still below the Eurozone average, where the selling price of a litre of petrol is €1.673 per litre and that of diesel is €1.53. The price of petrol is also lower than the average for EU countries, which is €1.625 per litre. For diesel, it is €1.507.
