JAVEA – Two men were seriously burned after an explosion in a ship’s fuel tank in the port of Jávea, Alicante. This has been confirmed by the Centre for Information and Coordination of Emergencies (CICU).
SAMU medical teams treated a 34-year-old man who suffered first and second-degree burns. He was transported by ambulance to the Marina Alta Hospital in Denia. Another injured man, 28 years old, was transferred by air ambulance to La Fe Hospital in Valencia with severe second and third-degree burns.
After receiving the emergency call, the CICU immediately deployed a SAMU unit and a medically supplied helicopter from Alicante province. Assistance was also provided by a basic Red Cross life support unit.
In addition to the men’s injuries, the explosion also caused a fire on board the ship. Four firefighting teams from the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium of Alicante have been dispatched to the site, as reported by the Generalitat’s Emergency Management Centre on their social media channels.
