Action expands in Spain

ZARAGOZA — Dutch discount chain Action opened its second store in Zaragoza on Thursday, 15 May, reinforcing its steady growth in Spain. The new shop, located on Calle José García Sánchez, becomes the brand’s 71st store in the country.

The company, which already operates over 3,000 stores across Europe, has identified Spain as one of its fastest-growing markets. While its strongest presence remains in the Madrid and Valencia regions, Action is increasingly expanding in Andalucia and now across Aragon.

High turnout at new opening

The latest store opening attracted long queues, with dozens of residents lining up to explore the new 821-square-metre space. Action offers thousands of low-cost items, with over two-thirds of its products priced under €2. The turnout highlighted the brand’s rising popularity in Spanish cities.

Jobs created in Zaragoza

The new branch has added 13 local jobs. Across Europe, Action employs thousands of people and maintains a standardised salary structure. For example, an employee in France recently stated via social media that their full-time monthly gross salary is €1,747. This pay rate applies across all Action stores, though it varies by position.

Expansion supported by logistics hub

To support its Spanish operations, Action opened a major distribution centre in Illescas, Toledo in early 2024. The facility adheres to BREEAM sustainability standards, reflecting the company’s aim to combine operational efficiency with environmentally friendly practices. It is one of 17 distribution centres Action uses across Europe.

Commitment to sustainable products

Although known for low prices, Action also focuses on sustainability. Its cotton products are certified by the Better Cotton initiative, its wood is sourced from responsibly managed forests, and its cocoa meets Fair Trade guidelines. This forms part of Action’s commitment to responsible production and ethical supply chains.

Weekly product refresh

Action sells goods across 14 categories, including household items, toys, DIY, and gardening. Around 150 new products arrive each week, offering customers a frequently changing selection of affordable goods.

As Action expands in Spain, its blend of budget pricing, sustainability practices, and job creation continues to resonate with consumers. With logistics infrastructure in place and growing demand, further openings across Spanish regions appear likely.
