BADMINTON: Carolina Marin wins back-to-back Thailand Opens
Carolina Marin defeated Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying in the women’s singles final to lift the Thailand Open on Sunday.
The Olympic gold medalist won in two straight games 21-19, 21-17 in an encounter that lasted for 48 minutes. The Taiwanese top seed appeared to lose her confidence early in the second set, as Marin asserted herself. Ying saved four match points but could not change the outcome.
Two wins in a week
This was Marin’s second title in a fortnight in Thailand. The country is hosting three consecutive tournaments in a covid-secure bubble without spectators.
The Spanish number one has not dropped a game in the two tournaments. “I feel extremely happy. Two victories in two weeks, it’s an amazing way to start the year” said Marin.
