Nestled in the tranquil landscape of Alicante’s Marina Alta region, the Jardín de l’Albarda has gained recognition as one of the 150 most beautiful botanical gardens in the world.
This stunning Mediterranean haven, located in Pedreguer near Dénia and Jávea, offers a serene escape from the bustling Costa Blanca.
A vision realised
The garden is the creation of Enrique Montoliu, a chemical engineer and entrepreneur who purchased the land in the 1980s. Originally a lemon grove, Montoliu transformed the space into a masterpiece of Mediterranean gardening. Today, the Jardín de l’Albarda spans 50,000 square metres, featuring over 700 plant species native to the Mediterranean.
A fusion of styles
The garden’s design showcases a blend of Valencian Renaissance and Arabic influences, complemented by elements of Baroque, Renaissance, and Neoclassical architecture. Pergolas, gazebos, and fountains seamlessly integrate with the lush greenery, creating an atmosphere of timeless elegance.
Visitors can explore various themed areas, including rose gardens and palm groves, all meticulously maintained to highlight the beauty of Mediterranean flora.
Biodiversity haven
Jardín de l’Albarda is more than a visual delight; it is a sanctuary for biodiversity. Its extensive collection of Mediterranean plants supports a thriving ecosystem, attracting birds, butterflies, and pollinators. This ecological richness reinforces the garden’s commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.
