World Ski Awards 2023 announces the best ski area in Spain

MADRID – With the prestigious title ‘Best Ski Resort in Spain’ of the World Ski Awards 2023, the organisation wants to underline the continuous efforts and ambitious projects of the number one ski resort.

Candanchú (Huesca) has won this coveted title for the second consecutive year and is now at the top of the honors list. The resort is one of the pioneers in Spanish skiing, sharing honours with previous winners such as Baqueira Beret, Cerler, and Boi Taul. This second victory confirms Candanchú’s leading position in the Spanish ski sector. Furthermore, there are 50 kilometres of slopes and a diverse range of accommodation.

Excellence in various categories

The World Ski Awards recognise excellence in various categories within the ski tourism sector. Nominees this year included Cerler, Formigal, Astún, Baqueira Beret, Boí Taüll, Masella, and Sierra Nevada. In Aragon, only Cerler had previously received this award.

Other winners in Spain

In the categories ‘Best Ski Hotel’ and ‘Best Boutique Hotel’ in Spain, Meliá Sol Nieve of Sierra Nevada and Lodge de Sierra Nevada won prizes respectively.

International recognition

At the international level, the French Val Thorens in the Alps was voted ‘Best Ski Resort’. The World Ski Awards were established to recognise and celebrate excellence in ski tourism. Moreover, the event aims to unite the sector and inspire innovation, local growth, and prosperity.

This year the world’s best green ski hotel (World’s Best Green Ski Hotel 2023) was also chosen. That became Rockresort in Laax, Switzerland. In Andorra, Grandvalira was chosen as the best ski resort.

Candanchú

With this victory, Candanchú, near the Somport border crossing to France, once again positions itself as a leading destination in the ski world, both nationally and internationally.
