The Policia Nacional in Segovia have arrested a fugitive sought by the United States for a fatal shooting. The man, wanted in connection with a 2009 murder in Connecticut, faces the possibility of life imprisonment if convicted.

The suspect was also the subject of a European Arrest Warrant issued by Portugal for setting fire to multiple rooms in his residence last year following disputes with other tenants.

Details of the 2009 Connecticut murder

The fugitive, whose identity has not been disclosed, was involved in a deadly altercation in August 2009. The incident occurred in a residential building in Connecticut, where both the suspect and the victim lived. The altercation stemmed from a car collision in the building’s garage.

On the night of the murder, the victim knocked on the fugitive’s apartment door. In response, the fugitive retrieved a firearm from his bedroom. A heated argument ensued at the entrance of the apartment, during which the suspect fired four shots. The bullets struck the victim in the head, chest, and abdomen, leading to his death.

International cooperation leads to arrest

In July, the US Marshals Service contacted the Policia Nacional with information suggesting that the suspect had fled to Spain. Following an intensive investigation, the fugitive was located in the province of Segovia, where authorities promptly arrested him.

In addition to the charges in the United States, the fugitive faces legal action in Portugal. Last year, he allegedly set fire to several rooms in his Portuguese residence after disputes with other tenants, leading to the issuance of a European Arrest Warrant.
