Agents of the Policía Nacional have arrested a fugitive in Elche, Alicante, who was wanted by Peruvian authorities for his alleged involvement in 16 murders. The suspect, identified as the leader of the criminal organisation “Los Alfiles,” is linked to at least 30 criminal activities, including selective assassinations and drug-related crimes.

The investigation began following intelligence provided by Peruvian authorities through INTERPOL and the Interior Attaché in Lima. This information suggested that the fugitive had fled Peru and was hiding in Spain.

The suspect is accused of orchestrating targeted attacks against officials in the provincial municipality of Callao, Peru. His organisation reportedly engaged in illicit activities such as appointing “ghost workers” and extorting fees from public works contracts.

16 murders and 3 kidnappings

Authorities report that the fugitive was involved in 16 murders and three kidnappings resulting in fatalities. “Los Alfiles” was known for using violence and threats to intimidate officials, businesspeople, and local leaders who opposed their interests. Their operations extended beyond extortion and fraud to include direct involvement in the narcotics trade.

Surveillance operation in Spain

Spanish law enforcement agents conducted months of surveillance, monitoring individuals within the suspect’s possible network. Eventually, they identified a person with whom the fugitive maintained a close relationship in Elche.

After locating his hideout, a police operation was executed, leading to his arrest. Authorities are now working on the extradition process to return him to Peru, where he faces serious criminal charges.
