The City Council of Torremolinos (Málaga) voted in favour of the economic report on the implementation of a blue and green parking zone on Friday. The positive votes came only from the Partido Popular. The vote took place during an extraordinary session on Friday. The first proposal has yet to be transposed into a regulation.
“With this, we are initiating a procedure to tackle the most congested parts of the city. We do this in a responsible manner, thinking carefully about what those areas are. And how we promote mobility in the downtown area and on the coast of Torremolinos,” explained the spokesperson for the municipality after the presentation of the proposal.
Blue and green zones in three areas
As the City Council indicated in a statement, among other things, this economic report states that the blue zone and the green zone of the municipality will be implemented in three areas: the centre, Montemar Bajo-Carihuela and Bajondillo-Playamar-Los Álamos. It concerns 4,627 parking spaces in 74 streets. Residential areas of Torremolinos are excluded from this approach, the councillor reported.
Times and prices
According to this first proposal, the blue and green zones in the city centre will apply from Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm and from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm and on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. Along the coastal strip, the zones from 1 October and 31 May apply. As the Town Hall indicates, there is a special arrangement for the promenade area between June 1 and September 30.
During the Semana Santa there will be a change. From Monday to Sunday parking is paid from 10.00 am to 11.00 pm. This choice corresponds to that of nearby municipalities, such as in Benalmádena. The choice of rate is also inspired by that of other municipalities. For the blue zone, this will be €1 per hour. A green zone has been set up for residents, with a rate of €1 per week. They pay €50 annually to make use of this special rate.
