Storm Armand
Code orange applies to the entire coastal area of Galicia due to wind and extremely high waves. Especially in the provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra, the sea could be quite turbulent. Waves up to 6 metres high are expected. Code orange has also been issued for La Rioja due to strong gusts of wind. The Aemet expects heavy to very heavy wind gusts in the south and southwest of La Rioja up to 100 km/h.
Due to the strong wind, code yellow was also issued on Friday for the following areas;
- the interior of Galicia
- a large part of Asturias
- northern Castile and León
- Cantabria
- the Basque Country.
The same level of warning has been issued for much of the Pyrenees due to wind and heavy rainfall. Code yellow also applies in the regions of Madrid, Castile-La Mancha and the north of Extremadura due to wind and heavy rain.
Lots of rain locally and spread across Spain on Friday
On Friday, the extreme weather will partially subside, but the Aemet will still issue code orange for the coastal area of Galicia due to high waves. In the interior of this region, code yellow applies because of the rain. On Friday it will also continue to rain in the Pyrenees, Cáceres and Ávila and in northwestern Andalucia. In some places 20 litres per hour is expected and that is why code yellow also applies to these places on Friday. On Saturday, only code yellow will apply along the coast of Galicia due to high waves.
